Telemedicine
maps
These interactive regional maps form an atlas
of telehealth services, – both existing and planned.
Pointing at the symbols using the mouse cursor makes them blink
and displays a descriptive text. Clicking on a symbol displays
a specific zoomed map .
Flash 4 format, a new Flash 6 version
is planned.

Hospital
restructuring maps
The first version of this regional atlas was printed for release.
An updated CD-ROM was later created. In order to widen its audience
and allow for easier updates, an on-line version will soon be made
available. It enables users to follow the evolution of hospital
services in each region. Each operation represented on the map is
dynamic – clicking on an operation displays a fact sheet.
The application is connected to a database that is maintained up-to-date
by the regional hospital services agencies (ARHs).

Health
services maps
Parhtage maps are part of an on-going project led by the Health
Ministry’s health and hospital services department.
These health services maps are part
of an interactive thematic cartography application enabling users
to view the location of health facilities in each French region.
The Poitou-Charentes region is shown in the example opposite .

This application is an example of an independent
medical services map. It is integrated in the Urcam website
. It allows users to view the demand for GPs in the region and how
these are spread across the area. Four thematic maps are offered
for each department divided into counties or cities. More detailed
statistical information – at the city level – is available
by clicking on a county and searching the connected database.

Cartographic

This application is an example of an independent
medical services map. It is built on the same design as the
one used by the Midi-Pyrennées Urcam – it also concerns
independent GPs and the four mapped themes are similar. Changes
were made to take into account the graphic standards of the site
as well as the specific geographic features of the region. As a
result, one regional map and three maps centred on the major cities
are provided.

Working from an existing site, the first
objective was to redesign its graphics – i.e., create a coherent
and attractive presentation throughout the site.
The second objective was to improve the information already published
by displaying statistical data in a clear and intuitive manner,
using inter-connected tables, graphs, and maps, including
recruitment area maps. |

The application integrated in the Burgundy ARH site
is a recruitment area map – can’t
get enough of those! – for hospitals. The same application
is also available on the Franche-Comté, Haute-Normandie,
Basse-Normandie, Poitou-Charentes, Burgundy, and Midi-Pyrénées
ARH sites.
