PMSI medical activity maps are now available for all French regions, including overseas departments, from the Parhtage regional hospital services agencies' portal. They allow users to view recruitment areas for all public and private health establishments.

The reasons why patients are sent to a particular hospital are based on complex factors that always go beyond administrative boundaries – i.e. departments or regions. Easy navigation from one region to another was therefore made possible, as well as analysing the situation near administrative borders.

These maps offer an overview of France by department, which can be broken down by activity and/or establishment. A more detailed analysis is made possible by zooming in on each municipality within a region. At this level, users can examine the recruitment area of the selected establishment or the destination of a given area's inhabitants.

To access the application directly on line: cartographie.parhtage.sante.fr

The following images concern the Midi-Pyrénées region.

view the demo Once a facility is selected, the recruitment area map provides the following information:

Foreground data: number of stays per activity group - all disciplines, total clinical medicine, total surgery and 38 detailed disciplines.

Background data: facility recruitment rate and three demographic indicators.

The displayed geographic level is the patients' home postal code. The map centres depending on the selected facility.

view the demoClicking on an area displays a window including indicators such as the distribution of stays by the zone's inhabitants across the various health facilities. The facility originally selected can then be compared to other facilities.

The pie chart itself is dynamic and indicates the number of stays by the zone's inhabitants in each facility displayed on the chart.
