You
can choose the variable you want to map from two drop-down lists,
one for background data, the other for foreground data. For each
map, Géoclip suggests a choice of default parameters: number of categories, category thresholds, and colour palette for background data; size, colour, and background or border of proportional circles for foreground data. Tip: to display empty circles instead of solid discs, click on the border of the circle in the key! Expert users can set these parameters to their liking. |

Displaying the distribution for background data Thresholds can be adjusted by dragging them along their axes or by typing values directly in the key. By default, brackets are calculated so that each bracket contains the same number of geographic units. The distribution graph of the displayed data provides additional help. Thresholds can then be adjusted visually according to the graph. Moving the mouse pointer across a line on the graph highlights the matching city on the map and displays the name of the city in the title banner. Tip: depending on the shape of the distribution, the key may overlap the graph; if so, you can click-and-drag the key to move it away. |

Locking circle sizes for foreground data Circle sizes can be set depending on the maximum value of the displayed data. Default size is 50 pixels. However, this maximum value changes with each data type. For successive maps to be comparable, this value can be locked using the "restrict" button. |
